Alpine reveals A523 for all-French F1 driver line-up

Alpine has revealed its A523 for the 2023 Formula 1 season during a launch event at London’s Printworks on Thursday evening.

Renault rebranded its factory squad as Alpine prior to the 2021 campaign and it returned to the top step of the podium in Hungary.

Last year it failed to take a single podium but made strong in-season progress to beat McLaren to fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.

Alpine enters 2023 with an amended driver partnership of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, the championship’s first all-French line-up in almost three decades.

“This time of the year is often filled with both excitement and anticipation ahead of a new Formula 1 season,” said team boss Otmar Szafnauer.

“It was a fantastic feeling to reach our objectives in 2022 by finishing in a well-deserved fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship; a healthy and significant milestone on our 100-race plan as outlined by Laurent at the beginning of the season.

“We have just under 80 races left on this mission and I’m proud to lead the team on this journey. For 2023, the aim is simple: at a minimum, we must finish in fourth and in a much more convincing fashion. By that, it means, more finishes, more points and less unforced retirements.

“I have high expectations from everyone in the team – not least Esteban and Pierre – who will work collaboratively to deliver the best possible results for the team.”

Ocon re-joined the operation in 2020, following previous spells on its young driver roster and as a test driver, while Gasly has switched from AlphaTauri.

It marks the first season for Gasly outside of the Red Bull umbrella since joining its young driver scheme back in 2013.

Gasly’s move to Alpine came after Fernando Alonso switched to Aston Martin and anticipated replacement Oscar Piastri signed for McLaren.

The A523, which features a blue and pink livery in a nod to title partner BWT, ran for the first time during a shakedown at Silverstone on Monday.

Alpine will run a pink livery during the first three race weekends of the year, a similar plan it implemented last year.
