Mercedes has revealed its car for the 2023 season, the W14, as it strives to re-emerge as a regular front-running contender.

The team has returned to a predominantly black scheme, which it sported in 2020/21, having adopted its traditional Silver Arrows scheme in 2022.

Mercedes streaked to eight successive world titles, setting a new Formula 1 record, from 2014 through 2021.

But it mis-stepped under new regulations in 2022 as it slipped to third place behind Red Bull and Ferrari.

Its W13 suffered chronic porpoising during the early stages of the campaign and while that was gradually remedied Mercedes uncovered further deficiencies within its package.

Mercedes improved as the season progressed, taking regular podium finishes, and eventually wound up with a 1-2 result in São Paulo.

The W14 is due to run for the first time today (Wednesday) during a shakedown.

Mercedes heads into 2023 with an unchanged driver line-up of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

Hamilton, entering his 11th season in Mercedes colours, endured his first win-less Formula 1 season in 2022 as he classified a lowly sixth in the standings.

He is out of contract after 2023 but has regularly outlined his intention to remain in Formula 1 with Mercedes on a multi-year extension.

Long-term Mercedes protégé Russell joined the team full-time in 2022 after three years at Williams and finished fourth in the standings.

He grabbed Mercedes’ sole 2022 pole – his career first – in Hungary before taking a commanding maiden win in São Paulo.

Former Haas racer Mick Schumacher will take on the role of Mercedes’ reserve driver following the respective departures of Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne.
