Aston Martin: ‘No excuses’ if F1 project isn’t successful
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Aston Martin will have “no excuses” if its Formula 1 endeavour is unsuccessful in the coming years, according to deputy technical director Eric Blandin.

The British manufacturer joined the grid in 2021 under the ownership of Lawrence Stroll, who purchased the team in 2018 when it went under administration while running as Force India.

The previous two years have had their share of challenging moments for Aston Martin, however it is currently constructing a new factory at Silverstone as it continues to invest in its F1 project.

With new facilities in the pipeline and a budget cap keeping costs restricted across the grid, Blandin says that Aston Martin has no excuses to wallow in the midfield.

“It’s coming together: the car, the people, the resources,” he said. “You can feel the energy.

“Even if we don’t get it right this year or next year, or don’t make the step forward we’re aiming for, we will eventually.

“There’s a strong feeling, a belief, that we’re on the right path. It’s going to take a few years to become championship contenders, but soon we will have everything we need to be successful.  There will be no excuses.”

Aston Martin will unveil its 2023 challenger on February 13 as it looks to continue the strong momentum it had at the conclusion of last year.

However, Blandin says that Aston Martin will be prepared to put up its hands if the car is not competitive.

“If we get it wrong and the car doesn’t perform the way we want, we have to be honest about it and work together to find the solutions,” he said.

“First, we need to understand why the car isn’t performing – where the issues are – and, based on what we have learned, then we need to find and implement the solutions to the problems.

“There’s nothing we can’t overcome. As a team, we can overcome any challenge we face.”
