Williams responds to Porsche Formula 1 rumours

Williams has offered a response to the rumours that Porsche is set to partner with the team following a social media message from the German manufacturer.

Porsche wiped its Formula E Instagram account of posts and stated that it would announce a message immediately on Monday.

“Start your engines. Something big is coming,” the message read, with today’s date attached.

Some have suggested that it was a cryptic post that linked the team to Williams amid reports that Dorilton Capital was looking to sell the squad.

However, Williams denies that its organisation is up for sale.

“The rumours that Williams Racing is up for sale are inaccurate,” a Williams spokesperson told Motorsport Week.

“We are open to any discussions regarding the supply of engines with manufacturers from 2026 when the new engine regulations come in.

“We are happy with our relationship with Mercedes [who has supplied Williams with engines since 2014] and appreciate all their efforts.”

Porsche is looking to enter F1 in 2026 when new power unit regulations come into play.

It was in talks with Red Bull last year, however, a deal between the parties collapsed when they couldn’t agree on terms.

Dorilton Capital took control of the Williams F1 team in 2020 after the Williams family stepped away from the squad.

It recently announced James Vowles as its new team boss for the 2023 campaign.
