F1 ‘ready to discuss’ adding new team to grid
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

As we approach the end of 2022, the balance of power has most definitely swung in the direction of Red Bull. Anyone betting on them to be successful this year has had a good time collecting their winnings. Will December and January see signs of their rivals making a major fightback?

This is a time of the year when all eyes are on the new season. You can bet there’s not going to be a great deal of rest for employees of teams such as Mercedes and Ferrari. Their aim now is to produce a car that will give Red Bull a run for their money in 2023.

All the work that is taking place now will hopefully see those teams closing the gap that now exists between them and Red Bull. New York odds makers will undoubtedly make Max Verstappen the favourite to win the 2023 title.

2022 saw two events on the Formula 1 calendar that were held in the US. Now as teams prepare themselves for the 2023 season, they will be making three trips to the US. And with the Canadian and Mexican Grands Prix also confirmed, North America is going to be a key area for F1 in 2023.

This year saw the Miami Grand Prix added to the Formula 1 calendar. Again, online sportsbooks had to pay out on a Max Verstappen victory. That and the US Grand Prix that followed in October will both be staged again next year.

However, there will also be a Las Vegas Grand Prix. That weekend won’t just see gamblers heading for the famous casinos. There’ll now be another United States based Grand Prix as Formula 1 attempts to strengthen their popularity in the US.

Mercedes need to do better for Hamilton and Russell in 2023

With Formula 1’s American owners, the odds are that even more efforts will be made in 2023 to make F1 the top motorsport in the US. That’s going to be a battle with both NASCAR and IndyCar but the tide is slowly being turned.

It would also be a huge boost if there was a new American star in Formula 1. That might be a while off too but you can bet if that was the case, the American fan base for the sport would rise even further. All eyes will be on Williams Racing’s Formula 2 junior driver Logan Sargeant to see if he can indeed make the cut for a Super License which could get him on the grid next year.

If the three races held in 2023 are a success (and the odds are that they will be), then who knows what lies ahead for the US? Three Formula 1 grands prix in 2023 could become four in 2024, who knows. Don’t bet on Liberty Media (F1’s US based owner) not doing all they can to make F1 an even bigger success in the US.

That’s for the future but in the meantime, we have to follow the latest news from teams as they prepare for the new season. Mercedes in particular will be keen to try and reassert their authority in the sport. 2022 was not a good one for the team who had been winning title after title in both championships.

While it was a frustrating season for Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes will have been pleased with the performances of new recruit George Russell. He put in several strong displays that show Mercedes will still have a powerful driver once Lewis Hamilton retires. Like his team mate though, the requirement is now for a car that is reliable and can win races.

Max Verstappen, now a double F1 World Champion

That’s why this time of the year is so important. There will be rumours of changes being made in the attempt to improve performance. A look at the odds that online sportsbooks are offering will be interesting in the coming weeks. Even more so once the testing sessions begin. Good performances would see odds being reduced. More problems would see the opposite occur; an interesting period indeed.

Ferrari have had a much improved season but still couldn’t win the title. They will be working hard to do their best to make it an even closer battle with Red Bull in the 2023 Formula 1 season. But what if Red Bull work wonders and make their car even better? That’s a fear all the teams will have at present. Verstappen looks like a driver who can win multiple titles, perhaps only a poor performance by his car can stop that happening.

Formula 1 fans have seen the season end earlier than last year. It’s a frustrating time for those who love the sport. There are video games that they can play and even gamble on virtual races at online casinos. However, nothing beats the real thing. Never has, never will. At least there’s all the latest news to follow online. We may all be yearning for a Formula 1 race to watch but this is such an important time for the sport. It’s not all about the races we love to watch on a Sunday. A close eye must be kept on the latest news and hope that in 2023, we will have a closer race for the title and of course three great races in the US.
