‘Boos all day’ – Hamilton says 2022 Mexico F1 event has been ‘awkward’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Lewis Hamilton says his experience at the Mexico City Grand Prix in 2022 has been “a bit awkward” due to the boos he has received.

The seven-time World Champion ended Sunday’s race from the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez in second place, crossing the line behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who scored his record-breaking 14th victory of the season.

Hamilton endured an intense rivalry with Verstappen last year for the F1 title, with Verstappen prevailing at the final round in Abu Dhabi.

The Mexican F1 fans rally around Guadalajara-born Sergio Perez, who is Verstappen’s F1 team-mate at the energy drink-backed squad.

Prior to the podium ceremony after Sunday’s race, there were audible boos when Hamilton stepped up to be interviewed.

“This has been an amazing crowd,” Hamilton said. “Definitely a bit awkward this time around, boos all day.

“Nevertheless, I have so much love for Mexico and the people here. What a great race and event they’ve put on this weekend.”

Hamilton started the race on the Medium compound and went deeper into the grand prix than Verstappen, who used the Softs at the beginning.

Verstappen pitted for the Medium tyre for his second stint while Hamilton chose the Hards, with Mercedes hoping that the Dutchman’s tyres would fade in the closing stages.

However, Verstappen continued to eke out a gap all the way to the chequered flag.

“I was so close in that first stint,” Hamilton commented. “I think Red Bull was too fast today, I think ultimately they had the better tyre strategy.

I’m not sure it was the right tyre in the end. I thought we should’ve started on the Softs, we had the opposite tyre. It was OK in the first stint, but that Hard tyre was just an offset.

“Congratulations to Max, it’s great to be up here separating the two [Red Bull cars].”

I can’t imagine why the crowd would boo him, or why he receives almost nothing but negative responses online from fans. Could it be because he has become a cancer to the F1 paddock? Nah. Could it be because he is incredibly insincere and hypocritical every time he opens his mouth? Nah. Could it be because he pushed BLM on F1 and it’s fans for so long and now no longer acknowledges its existence, and still pushes for racial/gender tokenism that no one actually cares about? Nah. Could it be because he was gifted free F1 championships for years with zero competition via crippling rules for other teams, then got exposed as a fraud the minute a better driver finally got a halfway-decent car and beat him, and still can’t accept he was beat? Nah. Could it be because he was once a respectable, talented, personable young man who then reversed in maturity? Nah. I just don’t know why people don’t like this fine young lad.

Could it be because he’s a cunt? Yeah, that’s the one.

    Hey Roy
Not sure what after race interview you watched but the one I watched Lewis was nothing but respectful of redbull and there cars he also commented on what a great crowd it was
You know it’s people like you who seem to have the issue and always seem to be filled with hate for anyone other than your favourite team
Even facts are pointed out and presented all you want to to is deny yell scream and whine like a child
You sure remind me of some people in the USA they are called maga crowd
They are just like you full of bullshit lies and when that don’t work resort to thuggery and violence
Grow up and grab a clue

“Thuggery or violence”? You mean like BLM, a group that Hamilton supported, which caused billions of dollars in small business properties, and killed many people? You mean thugs who are convicted rapists and killers like Tupac, who Hamilton has idolized since 2011?

And it’s funny how you never see him wearing a David Dorn t-shirt. A true hero, murdered by BLM.

You all are a bunch of losrrs, most of them racist. Fess up and admit it. Don’t hide. Everybody knows that last year’s AbuDabe race was stolen. Why do you think Masi is gone. Naa he had that had nothing to do with the outcome. Verstappen is not talking to Skye Sports now. Is it because they admitted the last race last year was stolen. Naa, that did not happen.

Oh look, someone playing the race card. That’s when you know you’ve won an argument, when that one is played. LOL. Hey Reggie, in case ya didn’t know, Lewis is HALF-WHITE too.

He is half white, but he works damned hard to hide it. Which is rather racist of him.

Fans usually boo the away team and this was clearly a home game for redbull with checo on the team. Believe me, if checo was driving for merc theyd be cheering hammy.

I mean people like the ones that stormed the capital on January 6 with no actual proof that the election was stolen just lies
I’m people who murder innocent people when they are in officers clothing and most times see no consequences
You know the ones you and your maga loving friends like when they do those things until the law catches up with your type then you know want to call them crooked
Go find a island where you can live in your fantasy world and leave the sane and normal people alone
