Mercedes scored a 1-2 in a rain affected second practice session which stretched to 90 minutes, rather than the normal 60 minutes.

George Russell headed team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.235s, whilst championship leader Max Verstappen was third fastest for Red Bull, eight-tenths back on Russell’s best time.

The session was a wet one, requiring intermediate tyres. The rain meant Pirelli’s dry tyre test was postponed, by race control kept the session at 90 minutes.

Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen completed the top five.
