FIA delays release of F1 budget cap certificates

The FIA has announced that it has delayed the release of its 2021 budget cap findings until next week.

The governing body had intended on announcing the results today, amid a period of controversy following rumours that two teams didn’t comply with the budget.

However, that has now been pushed back to Monday, October 10 due to the “long and complex” process that is currently ongoing.

Teams submitted their accounts earlier this year, after the sport operated under a $145 million cap for the first time in 2021.

Punishments for breaching the financial regulations can range from a fine to exclusion from the championship.

However, it is believed that any breaches of the 2021 cost cap are minor, and won’t result in severe punishments.

“The FIA informs that the conclusion of the analysis of the 2021 financial submissions of the Formula 1 teams and the subsequent release of Certificates of Compliance to the Financial Regulations will not take place on Wednesday, 5 October,” an FIA statement read.

“The analysis of financial submissions is a long and complex process that is ongoing and will be concluded to enable the release of the Certificates on Monday, 10 October.

“The Financial Regulations were agreed unanimously by all Competitors, who have worked positively and collaboratively with the FIA Cost Cap Administration throughout this first year under the Financial Regulations.

“As previously communicated, there has been significant and unsubstantiated speculation and conjecture in relation to this matter, and the FIA reiterates that until it is finalised, no further information will be provided.

“The FIA also reiterates that any suggestion that FIA personnel have disclosed sensitive information is equally baseless.”

Red Bull and Aston Martin were named in a report as the two parties who were not compliant with the rules.

However, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner asserted that he was satisfied that the Milton Keynes-based squad’s accounts were below the cap.

I hope Red Bull and Horner are fined.
But no doubt they’ll squirm their way out of it !

Always funny to see them after the season finishes trying to promote themselves as Champs 🏆. It’s bigger news in Holland than it is in UK.

Mclaren need to rise next season. They are due a championship winning streak. Or Mercedes. .
Williams not much hope , but if they get fined and Red Bull get away it , then that’s some money exchanging hands in the back room.
