Andretti’s Jake Dennis took pole for the London E-Prix, in front of his delighted home crowd, beating Championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne in the Mercedes-EQ.

The battle for pole came down to the leaders of the two groups: Vandoorne set the best time for Group A, with Dennis topping the timing sheet for Group B.

In the end, it was the Brit who prevailed – but not after a heated duel with the Championship leader, who gave his everything on his last attempt.

It was, however, not enough, as Dennis seemed unstoppable on his own flying lap, securing the first slot on the grid for Andretti with a blistering 1:13.161s.

Behind them, Vandoorne’s teammate Nyck de Vries will start in third position, followed by Sergio Sette Camara with a very strong performance for Dragon/Penske.

Oliver Askew and Maximilian Gunther were the next two drivers to lose out in the Duels, and will start Race 1 in 5th and 6th position, with Nick Cassidy and André Lotterer closing the duelists panel in 7th and 8th.

The biggest shock however came with the exclusion from the Duels of every driver in the title fight barring the Championship leader.

Mick Evans could not qualify in the top 4 for Group A after a costly mistake on his last lap. He will start the race in 14th place after Venturi’s Lucas Di Grassi received a penalty for impeding, which dropped him to the back of the grid.

Edoardo Mortara and Jean-Éric Vergne also failed to make it into the top four in the early stages of Qualifying, and will each start the race in 8th and 13th position.

Race 1 starts at 3PM local time [BST].
