Lewis Hamilton has called out “archaic mindsets” in the wake of a racial slur aimed in his direction by Nelson Piquet.
Piquet, speaking in his native Portuguese, used derogatory language when referring to Hamilton on a Brazilian podcast, which gained traction in recent days.
Hamilton’s Mercedes team, Formula 1 and the FIA have condemned Piquet’s language while offering support to the seven-time champion.
A fan on Twitter posted a tweet saying: “What if Lewis Hamilton just tweeted ‘Who the fuck is Nelson Piquet?’ then closed twitter.”
Hamilton quote tweeted and added: “Imagine.”
Hamilton went on to comment “vamos focar em mudar a mentalidade,” in Portuguese, which translates as “let’s focus on changing the mindset.”
“It’s more than language. These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport.
“I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.”
Hamilton has been increasingly proactive in anti-racism and pro-diversity movements in recent years.
He last year co-produced the Hamilton Commission to understand and analyse the lack of diversity in motorsport, and has since founded Mission 44, a charitable foundation which aims to support young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
Lewis clearly has way too much time on his hands. He is the most privileged F1 driver in the history of the sport, beginning since at least age 12. That’s very good post, you are really onto something with the part about people rebelling and becoming the things the lefties have claimed them to be. Two years on, the last news about the Black Lives Matter rioter who murdered David Dorn was that he had been arrested the day after. David Dorn’s murder was on video, like Floyd’s death. But David Dorn was defending his friend’s shop, where he worked after retiring as a Police Captain, from BLM rioters looting the place. One of them, Stephen Cannon, shot him dead without mercy. Yet nothing has been done. On many news sites typing the name David Dorn in a comment guarantees instant deletion of the post, before it even hits the screen. David Dorn was a real black hero. He stood for all the finest qualities of the vast majority of law-abiding black citizens, so no wonder BLM don’t mention him. I mean, they killed him. But why hasn’t Hamilton dedicated some of his interviews, protests, even a couple of t-shirts, to David Dorn? Has he even looked deep enough into the activities of the vile terrorists BLM to know who David Dorn was? I doubt it.
