Wolff: Hamilton’s departure would be ‘an indictment for F1’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mercedes Formula 1 team principal Toto Wolff has provided an update on Lewis Hamilton, over one month on from the controversial 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Hamilton missed out on a record-breaking eighth title after being overtaken by rival Max Verstappen on the final lap of the grand prix.

Mercedes was disgruntled over how Race Control handled the late Safety Car restart procedure, believing the correct protocols were not followed.

Hamilton has not posted on social media since the final race of the campaign, while noise has been made in recent days regarding the Briton’s future in the sport.

Speaking to Austrian publication Kronen Zeitung, Wolff did not assert that Hamilton would be on the grid in 2022.

“I really hope we’ll see him again,” Wolff said. “He is the most important part of our sport.

“It would be an indictment for the whole of Formula 1 if the best driver decides to quit because of outrageous decisions.

“No matter what hurdle he faced, he has known all his life that he has to speak on the racetrack.

“But it is incredibly difficult for him until he has found a way between understanding right and wrong. It just takes time.

“We draw our conclusions from this and want to give the right answers on the track. That will be difficult enough with the new regulations.”

Earlier this week, the FIA confirmed that it had begun a detailed analysis into the final laps of the race in Abu Dhabi.

However, the findings of the investigation will not be released until the opening round of the new season in March.

Either Masi is an idiot, was too proud to admit he erred or he is in bed with Red Bull. In the span of a half lap he changed his mind and the rules to “create” a race. It is in his own words “to be settled on the track”…but that had been done….had Latifi not crashed while going half speed Verstappen has zero opportunity or chance of catching Hamilton. Masi should have consulted other officials vice dictating the finish….Hamilton was correct…the outcome was manipulated.

The lapped cars should have been allowed to pass by lap 56. Verstappen would have still won this race had the rules been followed properly. Masi is a terrible race director, and should rightfully be removed from his position. But fact is, if rules were properly inforced, the result would still be the same.

I don’t think you are correct as the rules state that there will be one more lap after the safety comes in before the race can commence. This rule was ignored in the interests of “the show”

Temember the ridiculous ten seconds of penalty to Hamilton and everything is settled.

Time to move on, people. Lewis is just being dramatic. Of course he’ll be back but he might have more competition in his own team.

Do you even have a clue what BLM ideology is. It is the most raciest anti family divisional ideology since Marxism. As uncle joe would say google it.

Do you want to live in a world that the color of your skin is more important than the content of your character? I don’t and I’m not white.

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune…
Hamilton and Wolff should have moved on long ago, it is now very boring and now bringing the sport into disrepute and demeaning themselves.
The World Championship is the result of the season’s racing in which Hamilton/Mercedes have had at least their fair share of good luck and we have all enjoyed a fabulous contest. Verstappen is a worthy WDC.
Let us hope that 2022 provides as much entertainment.

    I think Lewis Hamilton should
Leave F1 and come to nascar
He would be great for our sport

God no. It’s bad enough with Bubba Smollett committing hate hoaxes and whining about everything on track. Madam Lulu in Nascar would be absolutely insufferable on a whole new level. Dude needs to just go away and finish his autotune album or something.
