McLaren racer Daniel Ricciardo is set to demonstrate Dale Earnhardt Sr’s 1984 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Formula 1’s United States Grand Prix.

Ricciardo joined McLaren at the start of the year and accepted a bet with boss Zak Brown over a prize in the event of the Australian claiming a podium finish.

Brown promised Ricciardo a test drive in the Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo that is part of his large private collection of cars.

Ricciardo grew up as a fan of Earnhardt and uses the same number 3 that the NASCAR legend ran with throughout his career.

Ricciardo has endured a tricky first season with McLaren but delivered a shock victory for the squad at last month’s Italian Grand Prix.

It ended Ricciardo’s three-year wait for a win and also marked McLaren’s first victory since the end of the 2012 season.

An exact schedule has yet to be outlined but on the provisional timetable for next weekend’s United States Grand Prix a ‘NASCAR demo’ has been listed for shortly after Formula 1’s opening practice session on Friday.

You saw that right.

Please fact check. Earnhardt not only used other numbers throughout his career but won championships in the 2 car. He also drove the 15 car. Note the nomenclature. In NASCAR the numbers are assigned to the teams not the drives meaning for example that a sub for Dale would also be driving the 3 car. Not that he needed subs…
