Mercedes has announced that Esteban Gutierrez has been appointed as a Brand and Business Ambassador of the team.
Gutierrez, who spent three years racing in Formula 1 with Sauber and Haas from 2013 to 2016, joined Mercedes in 2018 as a simulator, development and reserve driver.
In 2021, the Mexican will continue to attend race weekends with the reigning World Champions, as well as promotional events.
As part of his new role, Gutierrez will work with other areas, including the Mercedes’ management, commercial, and marketing departments, “with a particular focus on strengthening commercial relationships in the Latin American market”, according to the team.
“I’m delighted to take on a new, expanded role at Mercedes, developing my experience across all areas of the team as I begin the next chapter of my career off the track,” Gutierrez said.
“The unprecedented success of the team in recent years has strengthened the Mercedes brand around the world, and I have enjoyed working to promote and deepen the team’s connections with Latin American markets during my time at Mercedes.
“Over the last three years, I have been privileged to work with the exceptional talent throughout the team, and I look forward to continuing this collaboration further over the coming years in my new business-focused role.”
Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff added: “Esteban is a valued member of Mercedes and his work behind the scenes since 2018 has made an important contribution to delivering maximum performance from the car at every race weekend.
“Since I have known Esteban, I have been impressed by his overall understanding of our industry and seen the potential for him to make a broader contribution to our success.
“He has supported us to develop valuable commercial relationships in the Latin American market, and he is well-placed to contribute more deeply to other areas of the team as well. Esteban’s new position will enable him to add value across the team and we are excited to work with him even more closely.”
