Silverstone has announced that it is reserving 10,000 tickets for key workers this year, as a reward for their duties during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The circuit is working with Blue Light Tickets, a sister company of the Blue Light Card discount scheme, to provide free tickets for workers in the NHS, emergency services, armed forces and social care sectors.
Currently, there are over 2 million Blue Light Card holders who are eligible to enter the draw. The tickets will be distributed for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, MotoGP and The Classic.
“Working with Blue Light Card gives us the reassurance that our tickets will reach those we are all so indebted to and we hope as many as possible can join us this summer to experience live motorsport, something we have all missed over the past 12 months,” said Silverstone Managing Director Stuart Pringle.
“The last year has been a challenge for everyone but particularly for those working on the frontline, putting their lives at risk, to keep our country and population safe under very difficult circumstances.
“I hope that this gesture goes some way to demonstrating to this community that their work is very much appreciated.”
The ballot for tickets to the first event, which is the F1 British GP from July 16 – 18, is now open and will remain so until May 25, with later closure dates for The Classic (June 27) and MotoGP (July 25).
Silverstone has outlined that for the British GP, 2,200 tickets will be issued for Friday, 1,000 will be given out for Saturday and 300 for Sunday.
The Classic, which will be held on the July 30 to August 1 weekend, has 2,000 tickets put aside for Friday and 1,000 for Sunday.
The remaining 3,500 tickets for the MotoGP event will also be spread across its race weekend from August 27 – 29, with 2,200 allocated to Friday, 1,000 for Saturday and the final 300 administered for Sunday.

But why??? Key workers have been “Key workers” since the beginning of time. They are paid to do a job like everyone else and this Covid thing is just an excuse to portray them as special people where we, the Jo public are encouraged to clap and bang a drum or whatever in support on a Thursday evening? Load of bollocks, just give them a cash bonus if you want to give them something.
They won’t even get that, 300 tickets out of 2 million eligible lol
Does it make you feel good to completely disregard people who have literally kept everything running during the pandemic? Is your ego that hurt you have to criticise such an act like this?
