Honda has confirmed that Alberto Puig is set to leave his role as Team Manager at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season.
Puig has been in his role as Honda Team Manager since 2018 and oversaw back-to-back triple crowns in his first two years in charge, as well as its struggles over the first half of the 2020s.
However, the 57-year-old has revealed he will be leaving his role in charge of the MotoGP team ahead of the 2027 regulations change.
The Spaniard will remain with Honda and move into a key advisory role within its racing set-up,
with the Japanese marque highlighting his new role will see Puig “continue to help shape HRC’s youth development programmes” alongside supporting management staff and riders.
Honda are actively seeking a replacement ahead of the 2027 season, with Trackhouse Team Boss Davide Brivio one of the names heavily rumoured to replace Puig.
“I first stepped into the World Championship paddock in 1987 and since then I have been a racer, worked with young riders, a rider manager and a team manager – always with Honda,” Puig said in a statement.
“During this time, I have experienced many moments, positive and negative, all of which have given me valuable knowledge on how to work with riders, people and different situations.
“It’s been a life of leading from the front and now I feel my skills are best suited to look at the overall picture.
“I am looking forward to using my experience in this new opportunity to help Honda HRC, its riders and its staff to grow and face all the challenges and successes which racing presents.”
