Vautier puts Cadillac on top for third Roar session in a row

Tristan Vautier has led the way in the third practice session at the Roar Before the 24, marking the third consecutive session where a Cadillac runner topped the timesheets.

Vautier posted a 01:35:710 behind the wheel of the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-VR, leading the way ahead of Oliver Jarvis in the #77 Mazda RT24-P, who was 0.289s slower.

Pipo Derani was third, some three-tenths behind Vautier in the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac while the top five was rounded out by Renger van der Zande and AJ Allmendinger for Chip Ganassi Racing and Meyer Shank Racing respectively.

Charles Milesi led the way for Racing Team Nederland for the second session in a row in LMP2. The young Frenchman posted a 01:37:336 in the #29 ORECA 07-Gibson, just under half a second quicker than the #11 WIN Autosport ORECA 07-Gibson in the hands of former Mazda star Tristan Nunez.

Nunez was followed by Nicolas Lapierre in the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA in third place, with fourth and fifth held by a pair of open-wheel aces. Rinus VeeKay posted the fourth quickest time in the #81 DragonSpeed ORECA, while ex-F1 racer Robert Kubica posted fifth for High Class Racing.

LMP3, meanwhile, saw the top four teams in class separated by less than three-tenths of a second. Colin Braun set the quickest time in the #54 CORE Autosport Ligier JS P320 by posting a 01:43:572, 0.131s clear of Jeroen Bleekemolen in the #91 Riley Motorsports Ligier.

Oliver Askew was third in the #74 Riley Motorsports Ligier, ahead of Kenton Koch in the #6 Muehlner Motorsports America Duqueine D08. In total, just 0.252s separated Braun and Koch, with Wayne Boyd over half a second further back in the #33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier in fifth place.

Corvette Racing locked out the front two positions in GTLM, with Nick Tandy leading the way in the #4 Corvette C8.R by posting a 1:43.467, just under half a second faster than team-mate Jordan Taylor in the #3 Corvette.

Timo Glock posted fourth in the #25 BMW M8 GTE, with Kevin Estre rounding out the top four for WeatherTech Racing.

Finally, Daniel Serra put the #21 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo on top in GTD, ahead of Laurens Vanthoor in the #9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R and Rolf Ineichen in the #111 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.

The Roar Before the 24 continues with qualifying for Sunday’s Motul Pole Award 100 at 3:00 PM ET.
