Stroll: ‘Ridiculous’ that Leclerc wasn’t penalised for Sochi crash
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Lance Stroll has hit out at the stewards’ ’ridiculous’ decision not to penalise Charles Leclerc following their collision on the opening lap of the Russian Grand Prix.

Stroll was eliminated from the race after he came together with Leclerc on the exit of Turn 4, which spun him into the wall.

It marked Stroll’s second consecutive race retirement, after he crashed at Mugello two weeks ago when he sustained a puncture.

Leclerc, who went on to finish the race in sixth place, escaped punishment for the incident – an outcome that Stroll disagrees with.

“I’m quite surprised that he didn’t get a penalty,” Stroll said. “I gave him plenty of room, I did the whole corner on the outside and he just tagged my right rear.

“I mean, I gave him all the room I could. It was unlucky but he could’ve avoided it, he didn’t have to run so wide into me.

‘So yeah, it’s kind of ridiculous that he didn’t get a penalty.”

When asked what he thought what he could’ve achievement during the race, the Canadian replied: “I think a lot was possible, I think we were seventh at that point.

“I had a great start. We were on a good tyre, so it’s a real shame.”

Stroll’s team-mate Sergio Perez crossed the finish line in fourth place, taking his best result of the season.

Racing Point currently sits fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, two points behind McLaren.
