DAMS driver Sean Gelael has suffered a D4 mid-spine fracture following a heavy landing over a kerb in Saturday’s Formula 2 Feature Race in Spain.
Gelael was battling Campos’ Jack Aitken on the last lap at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya but came to a halt a few corners from the finish line.
Formula 2 confirmed that Gelael’s car “went airborne and landed hard” in the incident, which was not shown on the world feed.
Gelael was extricated from the car and transferred to the nearby Hospital General De Granollers for precautionary checks.
Following an MRI scan yesterday evening, a small fracture of a vertebra was identified.
Gelael was released from the hospital on Saturday evening and is expected to make a full recovery.
As a precaution he has been declared unfit for Sunday’s Sprint Race.
“Hi guys, thanks for all the kind messages,” wrote Gelael on his social media pages.
“I’m all okay, I have a D4 mid-spine Fracture. We will wait and see what the future will bring.”
