Sergio Jimenez stormed to a pair of pole positions in qualifying for the sixth and seventh races of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY’s second season of competition.
Jimenez pips Evans to Round 7 pole
In the first batch of qualifying sessions, it was championship leader Jimenez who took pole position, beating title rival Simon Evans to the top spot.
The Brazilian racer completed a 1:25.959s run at the close of the 20-minute window to secure the highest starting space for the sixth race of the I-PACE eTROPHY’s final campaign.
This, however, was not without a challenge, and the reigning champion had to fend off much opposition after getting deposed from the top of the timesheets by team-mate Caca Bueno early on.
When Simon Evans, in turn, defeated Bueno’s lap, the pressure only increased but with a 1:26.144s run, Jimenez advanced to first, opening up a slender 0.020s advantage.
A further improvement of 0.185s handed Jimenez a fourth pole position in the Formula E support series while Evans secured second place, 0.039s behind after a late improvement.
Nick Foster followed in third while Alice Powell cemented fourth. Bueno meanwhile completed the top five in the Pro field, failing to refine his initial push lap by a big enough margin.
Jimenez takes the double
In the second session, Jimenez continued where he left off, advancing his pole position tally by again topping the second qualifying session of the day.
For the majority of the 20-minute window, it was Nick Foster who led the way after clocking a 1:26.079s lap, beating Bueno who initially held provisional pole by 0.049s.
After maintaining the fourth fastest time throughout, a late improvement from Jimenez saw the Brazilian move forward to first, outpacing Foster by 0.131s.
The rest of the field failed to match this new 1:25.948s benchmark. Foster followed in second while Powell took third, improving with only five-minutes left on the clock but still 0.169s off the pace.
Bueno meanwhile improved upon his previous standing in qualifying for Round 6 by taking fourth. Evans failed to reach previous heights by completing the top five.
