IndyCar took to the streets of Washington D.C. on Saturday afternoon for a set of knockout rounds in order to set the grid for Sunday’s race.
Alex Palou put on a clinic all afternoon, dancing right on the edge of control to set the fastest time and earn his seventh pole of the year. He did so with over half a second gap to the next driver as well.
Kyle Kirkwood suffered a small lockup on his final run, which pushed him to second place on the grid, with Scott McLaughlin slotting into third with his effort.

Multiple drivers pushed the limits too far and lost control navigating the track’s large braking zone bumps.
Will Power, Marcus Ericsson, Rinus VeeKay, and Kyffin Simpson all touched the wall in the first round and will have to work from the back of the pack.
Sunday’s race takes place just after 1:00 PM eastern time, with a lengthy 147 laps on tap.
