NASCAR has announced its 2020 Champion’s Week, expected to be held in Nashville, Tenn., after the conclusion of the race season, has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus and the impact on the industry, this year’s NASCAR Champion’s Week and NASCAR Cup Series Awards originally scheduled to take place in Nashville will not occur,” a statement from NASCAR read. “The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series champions will be celebrated at the end of the season with more details to come. We look forward to returning to Nashville in 2021.”
The yearly multi-day event, usually held in late November or early December, culminates in the NASCAR Cup Series Awards banquet. A joint awards banquet for NASCAR’s other two national series is held separately from the Cup Series festivities.
NASCAR moved its Champion’s Week fro Las Vegas to Nashville in 2019, with the banquet held at Nashville’s City Center. Events from last year’s Champion’s Week also included NASCAR Night at the Grand Ole Opry.
