IndyCar Officiating announced on Thursday that a new transparency initiative will be coming to the series.
Starting this weekend, IndyCar Officiating will publish post-event reports following each race weekend.
The reports will include officiating activity from the prior race, including penalties levied and findings from pre-race and post-race inspections.
Details will be given about which parts of the cars were inspected and how any infractions were assigned an appropriate penalty.
Also included will be a list of on track incidents that were referred to stewards but concluded with no further action.
Even practice violations, which include common minor infractions such as pit lane speeding or bringing out a red flag, will be detailed in the reports.
“One of the takeaways from the initial months of IndyCar Officiating was a need for thorough infraction communication and, in some cases, comparison to prior rulings to continue our goal of transparency and consistency in rule implementation,” Nair said.
“This post-event report will be clear in structure, process, and findings.
“The board would like to thank the entire IndyCar Officiating team for implementing this important step as we continue our mission.
“Working across the paddock with key stakeholders, we believe this structure will lead to a very positive result for the sport.”
Defining infraction severity
IndyCar Officiating, via its published reports, will break down infractions into one of three severity levels.
The first level is a basic non-compliance finding, with no evidence of improper conduct. This could be from a minor measurement issue resulting from assembly error or on track damage.

Level 2 represents a more significant finding, such as an aerodynamic advantage, car weight violation, safety equipment problem, or other configuration issues on the car.
A Level 3 infraction includes modification of spec parts and the deliberate installation of unapproved or altered components.
IndyCar Officiating can levy points penalties and monetary fines even at Level 1, but can move to disqualifications and suspensions with Level 3 violations.
Details of each infraction will be posted to https://noticeboard.indycarofficiating.org during the week following each event.
The new transparency initiative is set to begin this weekend for the Bommarito 500, and will also be available for IndyNXT support series events later in the season.
