Williams’ Formula 1 reserve driver Jack Aitken will race at next weekend’s S5000 championship season-opener at the Australian Grand Prix.

Aitken, 24, will compete full-time for Campos in this year’s Formula 2 championship but will make a one-off appearance at Albert Park, in the single-seater S5000 series.

Aitken joins a field that includes 2005 Australian Grand Prix winner Giancarlo Fisichella and the most experienced F1 driver in history Rubens Barrichello.

“I love all forms of cars and racing so I’m really looking forward to experiencing S5000 with its V8 power on such a fantastic track in Australia,” said Aitken.

“There’s a great selection of drivers on the grid, including some F1 legends, so I’m sure it’s going to be a really memorable occasion.”

Aitken spent four years associated with Renault – testing its F1 machinery – but has switched to a back-up role at Williams for 2020.

He is poised to make his Formula 1 practice debut with the team later this year.
