Renault Formula 1 junior Christian Lundgaard will not participate in this weekend’s Formula 2 pre-season test due to being placed in quarantine in Tenerife.
Formula 2 and Formula 3 are due to test in Bahrain from Sunday through Tuesday.
But ART Grand Prix driver Lundgaard, along with other members of the Renault Sport Academy, have been put into isolation after an outbreak of the Covid-19 virus on the Spanish island.
Lundgaard has been given the all-clear by doctors but is not permitted to leave the island until the quarantine period is over.
Renault was holding a training camp for its academy members in Tenerife.
Fellow Renault junior Guan Yu Zhou left prior to the situation unfolding and all other Formula 2 drivers have reached Bahrain.
It is unclear whether other Renault junior drivers are also in quarantine.
A joint statement released by Renault and ART Grand Prix confirmed that Lundgaard “has been detained on the island following an outbreak of the Coronavirus in his hotel.
“Christian has been checked by medical experts and is fit and well and not displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, however the governing authorities have ruled all guests of the hotel must remain in quarantine for two weeks as a precaution against the spread of the virus.
“Renault Sport Academy, ART and Christian would like to thank you for your wishes. No further announcement will be made on this unprecedented situation.”
