DS Techeetah ‘not worried’ after difficult Diriyah E-Prix weekend

Reigning Formula E Teams’ Champions DS Techeetah have insisted that they are not worried following a difficult opening weekend of Season 6 in Diriyah.

At the Riyadh Street Circuit, the Franco-Chinese team encountered difficulties, with small mistakes and poor luck resulting in a small haul of seven points.

In the first race of the season, two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne was forced into retirement following a steering issue while Antonio Felix da Costa only managed 14th.

Building upon this experience, the team bounced back in Race 2, with Vergne fighting from 24th on the grid following a battery change to eighth while a drive-through penalty for da Costa handed the Portuguese pilot 10th, failing to capitalise upon strong qualifying pace.

“[Race 2] looked really bright for Antonio after qualifying so it’s a real shame that he couldn’t repeat his win here from last year,” said Team Principal Mark Preston.

“Both drivers have proven what we can do and that we have pace, Jean-Éric even overtook two cars in one go, twice, during the last couple of laps so on this front we’re not worried.

“Once we knew that Jean-Éric was going to start from the back, the engineers came up with an all-or-nothing strategy and it panned out in the end.

“Although it would have been nice to have more points leaving here, all points count for something and it’s good to have some on our roaster.

“We know how long this season is and there is plenty of opportunity to recover in the championship standings.”

DS Techeetah currently hold ninth in the Teams’ Championship, one point behind Jaguar Racing who hold eighth at present.
