Felipe Nasr has taken pole position for tomorrow's Motul Petit Le Mans. The Brazilian ex-F1 driver set a time of 01:08:457 to take pole position ahead of the #7 Acura Team Penske ARX-05 of Ricky Taylor.
Nasr beat Taylor by 0.141s, with the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac of Filipe Albuquerque in third just three-tenths further back. Championship leader Dane Cameron will line up fourth in the #6 Acura. Cameron's 01:08:802 was temporarily quickest, until the red-and-white #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac of Nasr posted his quickest time.
Timo Bernhard will be lining up fifth in the #77 Mazda Team Joest DPi, just under four-tenths quicker than team-mate Harry Tincknell in the #55 Mazda. Simon Trummer's #84 JDC Miller Cadillac is seventh, ahead of Wayne Taylor Racing's Renger van der Zande, the Juncos Racing Cadillac of Spencer Pigot, while Misha Goikhberg completes the order in the #95 JDC Miller Cadillac DPi-VR.
Kyle Masson won an exciting qualifying battle in LMP2, with the #38 Performance Tech Motorsports ORECA 07-Gibson take pole position with a time of 01:10:722. Masson traded the top time back and forth with the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA of Matt McMurry, but McMurry came up short by just over one-tenth of a second.
James Calado took a late pole position in GTLM for Risi Competizione, with the #62 Ferrari 488 GTE's time of 01:15:639 barely faster than the 01:15:702 set by Antonio Garcia in the #3 Corvette.
The top five in the ultra-competitive class was completed by five different manufacturers. Philipp Eng came third in the #24 BMW M8 GTE, ahead of championship leader Laurens Vanthoor in the Coca Cola-liveried #912 Porsche 911 RSR.
The #66 Ford of Joey Hand took fifth ahead of team-mate Richard Westbrook in the #67. The running order was completed by the #911 Porsche of Nick Tandy, the #4 Corvette of Oliver Gavin and the #25 BMW of Colton Herta.
Paul Miller Racing's Corey Lewis was handed an unexpected pole position in GTD after the #29 Montaplast by Land Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo of Ricardo Feller had its pole time deleted due to a qualifying infraction. The team's mechanics touched the car under red flag conditions, which isn't allowed under IMSA's qualifying rules.
That red flag was caused by Robbie Foley, who beached his Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 in the gravel mere minutes into the session.
Once the session got back underway, Feller eventually set the fastest time, but after it was deleted, the 01:19:530 set by Lewis in the #48 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo became the new pole time. Ben Keating will be starting second in the #33 Mercedes-AMG GT3, ahead of the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 in the hands of Jeff Westphal.
