Rene Rast charged through the field to take victory in DTM's second race at Hockenheim on Sunday.
Rast, who started way down in 16th, made use of a Safety Car period to utilise a two-stop strategy to overhaul race leaders Nico Muller and Robin Frijns to lead an all-Audi podium.
The German made up four positions during the opening laps to sit just outside the top ten in 12th, but dropped to the back of the field as he made an early stop as the safety car made an appearance to clear a stranded Mick Rockenfeller on lap 7.
That fresh rubber for Rast proved pivotal though as he quickly charged through the field once more – however with the rules specifying that mandatory stops can't be made under the SC, Rast would need to stop again.
It took just four laps for Rast to overhaul much of the field, moving into second place behind poleman Philipp Eng. On the next lap Rast made his move at the hairpin to assume the lead.
BMW's Eng fell further back as Audi asserted their dominance, with Frijns moving ahead and Muller closing up the rear of the Team RBM car. The trio then pitted together, giving Rast some breathing room before his second stop three laps later.
Paul di Resta assumed the lead for R-Motorsport, having made an early stop just before the safety car was called. Rast then rejoined in P2 behind di Resta with an almost 16-second gap to close down. That didn't take long as Rast made up an average of three-seconds per lap before di Resta made a second stop, falling to seventh where he finished.
Rast's fresher rubber meant he went unchallenged to the finish, with Muller taking the chequered flag 12s later.
Frijns completed the podium ahead of a BMW 4-5-6 as Brino Spengler slotted into fifth ahead of Timo Glock.
Behind di Resta was Marco Wittmann who lost out at the start when he and Glock made contact, followed by contact with Pietro Fittipaldi, who pitched him into a spin and took a drive-through penalty as a result.
Jamie Green was ninth thanks to a drive-through penalty for his contact with Sheldon van der Linde. Joel Eriksson completed the top ten after he was passed by Green on the final lap of the race.
