Andrea Iannone will not take part in this afternoon's MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix after injuring his ankle in a crash during FP4 on Saturday.
The Aprilia rider suffered a fast crash at the right-hander of the Criville corner of Turn 11 during the final practice ahead of qualifying, and had to be carried of circuit by marshals on a stretcher.
Iannone first returned to his Aprilia garage, but had to be helped out by his team and was taken to the medical centre for checks.
He underwent an X-ray at the circuit medical centre, which revealed no broken bones in his ankle. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for further examination.
Iannone missed qualifying as a result, while a team press release confirmed on Saturday his race participation was subject to checks ahead of Sunday morning's warm-up session.
He has now been declared unfit to compete in the fourth round of the 2019 season, compounding a tough start to his maiden season with Aprilia.
After three races, Iannone has just six points to his credit after a best result of 12th at Austin and sits 18th in the standings.
Aprilia will still have two bikes on the gird for this afternoon's Jerez race, with Aleix Espargaro – who will start 16th – being joined by Aprilia test rider Bradley Smith, who is making his second wildcard appearance on the RS-GP this season having raced in Qatar.
