It's a Honda-Yamaha-Ducati front-row for MotoGP's Argentina Grand Prix, headed by pole-sitter and reigning champion Marc Marquez who pipped title rival Maverick Vinales by 0.154s.
Marquez's 1:38.304 in Q2 put him firmly at the top of the times, but behind the Spaniard things were very close, with second and third separated by one hundredth of a second.
Championship leader Andrea Dovizioso took the final front-row slot for Ducati at the Termas circuit.
Marquez led the field at the start of Q2 as team-mate Jorge Lorenzo slotted into second. LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow quickly deposed Lorenzo before he and Pramac's Jack Miller engaged in a battle for the second quickest lap. Jack Miller and Valentino Rossi slotted into fourth and fifth.
The shoot-out for pole kicked-off again with five minutes of the session remaining with all 12 riders out on track with fresh rubber.
Vinales moved to the top with his effort and it looked as though Miller would surpass him, only to lose out in the final sector, slotting into third, before being pushed down the order by Dovizioso and Rossi, finishing up fifth. Marquez recaptured pole with his final effort to set the top five.
Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) took his best qualifying result with sixth ahead of team-mate Fabio Quartararo with just 0.011 splitting the YZR-M1 duo. Crutchlow was eighth ahead of his own team-mate Takaaki Nakagami, with Danilo Petrucci completing the top ten.
A major shock from Q1 was 2018 Argentina GP podium finisher Alex Rins, who was unable to start higher than P16.
