Anthony Pasut, the gas man on the No. 37 JTG-Daugherty Racing pit crew of Chris Buescher, suffered injuries that included a broken fibula and torn ACL while servicing Buescher's car on pit road during Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the second race of the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.
Pasut's injuries were an indirect result of pit-road contact between the No. 47 JTG-Daugherty Racing Chevrolet of Ryan Preece and the No. 52 Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet of B.J. McLeod with 52 laps remaining in the 325-lap race.
When Preece pulled out of his pit box following routine service, he struck McLeod's stopped car, knocking McLeod's car into Pasut.
“I was just trying to make sure I wasn’t speeding and when I looked up, he was coming into his pit,” Preece told Fox Sports during the live TV broadcast of the race. “It was a mistake. What are you going to do?”
Pasult is actually classified as a Hendrick Motorsports pit crew member, as HMS provides pit crews for JTG-Daugherty Racing as a part of the technical alliance between the two racing organizations.
The date of Pasut's return to competition is unknown, and his replacement for the time being has not been announced.
