Techeetah out for Paris E-Prix redemption

After a heartbreaking Paris ePrix last season, in which a potential maiden win for Techeetah was lost, Mark Preston's outfit is looking for a strong result at the third running of the French round this weekend.

Techeetah currently leads the Teams' Championship through the efforts of Jean-Eric Vergne and Andre Lotterer, with the pair taking a memorable and historic 1-2 finish at the Santiago E-Prix, while Vergne also claimed victory in Punta del Este.

In the inaugural Rome E-Prix earlier in April, the Chinese-owned squad once again managed to bolster its position in the series, with rookie Lotterer taking a second podium, while Vergne put in a solid recovery to take fifth.

“It’s great to have had a solid start of the European leg of the season with André on the podium and Jean-Éric in fifth place at the Rome E-Prix," said a proud Mark Preston, Team Principal of Techeetah.

"Jean-Éric scored another 10 valuable points for his championship contention and André re-joined the top 10 list in the drivers’ ranking.

“Rome saw Techeetah have another impressive points haul to increase our championship lead with 34 points. It may sound like a lot, but in the close competition that is the Formula E championship, it’s a very small margin that we hope to extend in Paris."

Reflecting on last season's Paris E-Prix, which saw Vergne crash out after a suspension failure while batting with Renault e.dams' Sebastien Buemi for the race win, Preston admitted that the defeat has left him with a bitter taste in his mouth:

“We had good pace in Paris last year and we were in the mix for the victory when Jean-Éric’s suspension failed," he said.

"It’s quite likely that we would have won that race, which would have been the first victory for Techeetah, so it was heart breaking E-Prix for the whole team last year

"The suspension was later changed for the whole paddock so it’s still a bit of a sore spot to be honest, but it also makes us even more keen to have a good result this time around."

With the Paris ePrix marking his home event on the Formula E calendar, Vergne highlighted the round as special and is looking for a strong result.

“We’ve had a good week in the sim with the engineering team and I feel ready to take on the streets of Paris," he said.

"Having grown up in Paris, this race is extra special for me. I’m really looking forward to racing now and to meet all the French fans that have been an incredible support so far this season."

Vergne currently holds an 18-point lead over DS Virgin Racing's Sam Bird in the standings.

Techeetah has also added Ferrari-backed F3 racer Guan Yu Zhou to its roster, with the youngster joining as its new Development Driver.
