BMW i has been named as the race title sponsor of the Berlin ePrix which will take place at the Tempelhof Airport on May 19.
BMW i is the official vehicle partner of Formula E and through the sponsorship of its home race, is set to expand its relationship with the all-electric single seater series, backing the German leg of the championship for multiple seasons.
“The race in Berlin has featured on the calendar every season and we’ve been working closely alongside BMW i for equally as long, so it’s pleasing to see their growing commitment to the series," said Alejandro Agag, CEO and Founder of Formula E.
"BMW i has always been supportive of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship since the very beginning – both as official vehicle partner and now as the race title partner of the BMW i Berlin E-Prix.
"I’m looking forward to seeing the fans showing up in force for what I’m sure will be another scintillating spectacle at Tempelhof Airport."
Jörg Reimann, Vice President of BMW Brand Experience added: “The title partnership for the German round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Berlin is a key component of our extensive commitment to this series.
“For BMW, the opportunity to actively shape the event and offer visitors a unique BMW brand experience is always at the heart of this kind of co-operation. That is precisely what we will be doing at the BMW i Berlin E-Prix alongside Formula E.”
While being the official vehicle partner of the series and now becoming the title sponsor of one of its events, BMW also has involvement on the grid as a technical partner to MS&AD Andretti Formula E, with the team running BMW factory drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Tom Blomqvist.
This involvement with Andretti is set to increase for Season Five later this year, where BMW will enter its own works team for the introduction of the new Gen2 car which will replace the current Spark SRT 01E that has been in use since the series' inaugural season from 2014-2015.
