A new think-tank has been created by Formula 1 to improve the overall experience for fans during and away from races next season and beyond.
The Promotional Working Group will meet at various points ahead of the 2015 season and throughout, in order to brainstorm ways of making the sport more engaging for fans, as well as promoting itself better away from the track in order to attract new fans.
The first meeting was held last week and chaired by Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams, who said about the group: “It’s going to look at promotional opportunities around F1, to ensure that we have sustainability moving forward in to the future.”
The details of the meeting haven’t been made public, but it’s believed a number of changes including opening the pit lane up for Thursday track walks at all circuits was discussed, as was improving interaction with drivers during race weekends and making them more accessible.
Despite Bernie Ecclestone’s comments about social media and young fans, a push to engage with fans online through various platforms is also on the agenda and it comes as the sport is due to launch a brand new website ahead of next season, which it hopes will integrate well with social media websites.
All proposals will go before the Strategy Group where they will be voted on before being implemented or scrapped.
