Bahrain has sentenced five nationals to five years in prison for an attempted bombing of the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix.
The five, two of which were women, attempted to plant a bomb within the circuit to disrupt the race.
The plot was foiled when a policewoman searched one of the women, but found she was using a pillow to appear as though she was pregnant to hide a device during a trial run to smuggle a home-made bomb in on the Sunday of the race.
According to the Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR), the pair were detained during a protest near the circuit. They later claimed they had been tortured by police during questioning, but this has been denied by the Bahraini government.
The attempted bombing is part of the oppositions protests against the government which resulted in the cancellation of the 2011 Bahrain GP.
