The Grand Prix of America, located in New Jersey along the Hudson River with New York City as the backdrop, has been postponed until 2014.
The race was officially scheduled for June 16th next year, but Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner confirmed to the New Jersey Journal that the event has been called off and will now make its debut in 2014.
It’s been well documented that delays have threatened the races deadline despite the pit buldings nearing completion. Permits to close the 3.2-mile course on public roads are believed to have presented the biggest stumbling block, which is yet to be resolved therefore resulting in the delay.
An official announcement will come on Friday.
The 2013 calendar will therefore be reduced to just 19 races, compared to 20 this season, unless a replacement can be found.
