Ferrari have confirmed that Felipe Massa will remain with the team in 2013, as reported by The F1 Times earlier this week.
The Brazilian was on the brink of losing his seat at the Italian outfit after a run of disappointing results since the 2010 season. However a late surge in performance, which has seen him finish second in Japan and fourth in Korea, led to a one-year contract extension.
A short statement on the Ferrari website confirmed the news.
“Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has renewed its contract with the driver Felipe Massa to the end of the 2013 race season,” it read.
“The Scuderia’s driver line-up for next year is therefore made up of Fernando Alonso and the aforementioned Felipe Massa.”
There had been rumours that Nico Hulkenberg had been set to replace him. Hulkenberg however is believed to have signed a contract with Sauber to replace Sergio Perez who moves to McLaren.
