Mercedes most urgent priority is to resolve the reliability issues surrounding Michael Schumacher, says team principal Ross Brawn.
The German has suffered reliability problems in five of the seven grands prix this season which has seen him fail to finish those races; Australia, China, Bahrain, Monaco and Canada.
Brawn is adamant the cars are put together to the very same standard, despite Nico Rosberg having completed every single racing lap this season.
“Both cars are designed and built to exactly the same standards, according to the same processes,” he told Bild Zeitung.
“Our target is always zero-defect reliability and we are not achieving that at the moment, which is compromising our championship position and our chances in the races. Resolving it is our highest priority,” he added.
The team must react quickly, says Brawn, but not in a way which could exacerbate the problems further and he insists it isn’t due to a lack of attention on Schumacher’s side of the garage.
“We have to ensure that we fully understand the reasons for the problems and then deal with them in a clear and systematic way.
“Every member of the team is acutely aware of their responsibilities in these areas and the problems we have experienced are not due to a lack of attention or diligence.
“However, whilst we have to improve we must not create new problems by reacting in the wrong way. There is no magic bullet.”
