Lewis Hamilton is keen to get back in his McLaren at the upcoming in-season test in Mugello next week following a disappointing Bahrain Grand Prix.
Hamilton could only manage eighth place and whilst much of that was down to two poor pit-stops by his team, the unexpected tyre wear experienced on the MP4-27 was also a major contributor to their poor race pace.
The 27-year-old has urged McLaren to change its testing program, in which it had scheduled to run Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey during the three day test.
“I need to get back in the car,” Hamilton exclaimed. “We need to figure out why the tyres are going off.
“If there are other things to test or ways to figure that out I will be the one to do it, not let someone else do it.”
He added: “We have a lot of work to do. We really have to make some big improvements to the car because the qualifying pace is there but the race pace, at least in Bahrain, was miles off.”
It’s expected McLaren will change its running in order to satisfy Hamilton.
