Jenson Button thoroughly enjoyed the Italian Grand Prix, despite not finishing first. The McLaren driver described the race as ‘fun’ after battling through from seventh after a poor start, to claim second, just under ten seconds behind Sebastian Vettel.
“It was a really fun race, fighting with Lewis, with Michael and with Fernando,” he said after the race.
“It wasn’t for the lead, which was a shame, but it was always going to be difficult when we were down in seventh at one point and sixth after the start. It was a tough start to the race, but a lot of fun and the atmosphere here is fantastic, it’s electric.”
Whilst it was a ‘good’ race, things weren’t perfect for Button and McLaren, and the 2009-champion admitted things needed to improve in order for him to challenge the German on a more regular basis.
“Another good race, but we’ve just got to get everything together on race weekends and hopefully we’ll be challenging Red Bull and Seb[astian Vettel].
“It was a great job by the whole team even if there are little things we need to work on,” he added.
