Adrian Sutil’s aim for the first race of the season is to simply see the checkered flag and, as a result, hopefully secure his first points of 2011.
The VJM04 covered good distance during pre-season testing, proving it has the reliability to finish a grand prix distance. This though, may not be enough as racing conditions can be very different.
Sutil however, says his aim is to get to the end of the Australian GP, unlike in 2010 when reliability issues meant he retired on lap nine.
“I hope that I will be able to finish the race as last year the gearbox let us down,” said Sutil. “It is always a good feeling to finish the first race, as you then know that the season has really started.”
If Sutil manages to cross the line after 58 laps, he’s confident he can secure a points paying position.
“It was a crazy race in Australia last year when the rain came in; I think only ten cars made it to finish.
“This is also why I think it is so important to finish the race in Melbourne – there are usually points to be won if you see the chequered flag.”
