Force India will be investigated by the FIA for a mistake during their first round of pit-stops which could result in both drivers being excluded from the race result.
On the second lap of the race, Adrian Sutil pitted for new tyres as part of his strategy, however his team-mate also pitted having made contact with another driver.
That led to Sutil receiving Liuzzi’s tyres and vice versa.
“There was some confusion in the stop,” said Sutil. “Tonio had radioed to say he was coming in for a front wing change and as we both arrived at the same time the tyre sets got mixed up and then I had to come in and pit again to get the correct set.”
The team contravened regulation 25.3 which states: “The use of tyres without appropriate identification may result in a grid position penalty or exclusion from the race.”
— Update —
The FIA took the option to reprimand the Force India team because they rectified the problem at the soonest possible point.
