The organisers of the Monaco grand prix have responded to comments made by F1 rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone.
The 78-year-old Billionaire told the media earlier last week that he thought F1 could survive without the Monte Carlo event: “I think we can do without Monaco, they don’t pay enough,” he proclaimed.
Such comments are however a trademark of Ecclestone, often applying pressure to organisers when a new deal is up for renewal.
The statement from the Automobile Clue de Monaco confirmed negotiations were underway to extend their race contract with an annoucement to be made in due time.
“The Automobile Club de Monaco does not wish to comment on the statement given by Mr. Ecclestone relating to the future of the Monaco Formula 1 grand prix,” a statement read on the club’s website.
“Assuming that this information is verified by Mr. Ecclestone and the media where it was reported, one must still understand the context under which such sentiments were made.
“The reality is much simpler: a negotiation is ongoing between the Automobile Club de Monaco and Formula One Management. In time, the Automobile Club will not fail to communicate the signing of an agreement.”
