Red Bull recruits TRS champion Liam Lawson as junior
Red Bull has added Toyota Racing Series champion Liam Lawson to its young driver programme for the 2019 campaign.
Red Bull was one of the first operations to create a junior scheme and through the last decade the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Pierre Gasly have ascended through its ranks.
Lawson, 17, clinched this year’s Toyota Racing Series title, edging out Ferrari junior Marcus Armstrong, and will contest the rebranded Formula European Masters series with Motopark in 2019.
Formula European Masters is the championship that operated under the European Formula 3 banner until the FIA-led overhaul of the GP3 Series into FIA Formula 3.
Lawson joins Lucas Auer, Jack Doohan, Jonny Edgar, Dennis Hauger, Harry Thompson, Dan Ticktum, Yuki Tsunoda and Juri Vips on the scheme.
Ticktum is ostensibly Red Bull’s leading protégé, having secured back-to-back Macau Grand Prix wins and the runner-up spot in last year’s Formula 3 standings.
