McLaren confirms James Key signing, departure of Matt Morris
McLaren has confirmed that technical guru James Key is to join the team from Toro Rosso.
Key began his career with Jordan and rose through the ranks to become technical director as the squad morphed into Midland, Spyker, and then Force India.
Key spent a brief spell at Sauber before moving to Toro Rosso in 2012 as its technical director, but will now depart Red Bull’s junior team to join McLaren.
A start date for Key at McLaren has yet to be communicated.
McLaren has also confirmed that Matt Morris has departed his role of Engineering Director.
It marks the latest change to McLaren’s senior line-up in the wake of a tumultuous few months for the team.
A split with Honda and alliance with Renault was viewed as the catalyst to return to a competitive position, but its MCL33 proved underwhelming, and it holds only seventh in the standings.
Technical chief Tim Goss was axed after the early rounds while Racing Director Eric Boullier relinquished his role earlier this month, with Gil de Ferran appointed as Sporting Director.
