George Russell fastest overall on final day of GP3 test
George Russell posted the fastest time for ART Grand Prix during the final day of the three-day post-season GP3 test in Abu Dhabi.
The Briton, who won two races on his way to third in the European F3 series this year with HitechGP, clocked a lap time of 1:55.364.
The time, contrary to the best efforts posted thus far in the test was set in the earlier morning session, and as the test concluded on Friday, it went down as the quickest overall time of the three-day event.
Russell was over half a second quicker than Haas F1 Team protege Santino Ferrucci, whose 1:55.907 effort for Trident was the only other lap to break the 1:56 barrier on day three.
Behind him came day two's fastest man Alessio Lorandi for Jenzer Motorsport, followed by Arden pair Max Defourny and Leonardo Pulchini.
Positions 6-9 were filled by GP3 regulars Jack Aitken, Arjun Maini, Steijn Schothorst and Kevin Joerg, with Italian F4 champion Marcos Siebert rounding out the top ten.
The afternoon session got underway after the lunch break, and Russell was once again on top, some four tenths down on his earlier time.
The pace stayed amongst many of the same drivers, with Lorandi, Pulchini, Maini and Ferrucci making up the top five, followed by Giuliano Alesi, Aitken, Robert Schwartzmann, Alex Palou and Bruno Baptista, who completed the top ten.
GP3 Series will get back underway in 2017, and though no calendar has been formally announced, it is likely to begin with races in support of the Spanish Grand Prix on 13-14 May.
