Vinales aiming for top-six finish at every race in 2016

Maverick Vinales has set himself and his team, Suzuki Ecstar, a lofty target for their second season together, with the Spaniard setting his sights on a top-six finish at every round on the 2016 calendar.

Vinales made his MotoGP debut in 2015 and had an average finish of ninth, with a best finish of sixth on two occasions in Spain and Australia.

Despite this, Vinales is confident his Suzuki Ecstar team will make a big step forward in '16 by making the most of MotoGP's new control ECU and Michelin tyres.

"This year, both Suzuki and I have more ambitious goals,” he told the official MotoGP website. “We'd like to finish in the top six in every race, which I think is a good target, but of course it will be difficult to make happen. I am very motivated.

"We are all starting from scratch with new tyres and electronics, and everyone has their own development. We all start from the same base. Our first contact with the Michelins was very positive, and in the last test in Malaysia we tried some laps with the new electronics and I liked it a lot.

"Above all, I hope we have a bike with more power. This pre-season we will have a bike that has evolved over a full year of competition, so unlike last year we can work on other things. I remember last season I had to do a lot of work with the tyres, which were new to me, and the setup."

Vinales believes he now has the measure of Michelin's new tyres and will therefore concentrate on the sport's new ECU at next week's Sepang test.

"From next week we will focus on electronics," he added. "Although there have only been two tests for us with Michelin, I think I know them enough that we can focus on other aspects."
