The FIA Formula 2 Championship has unveiled its calendar for the 2024 season, with 14 venues listed including a first visit to the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar.

The 2024 calendar spans 13 countries and three continents, ready for 22 drivers across 11 teams to fight for the coveted title.

Running alongside the 2024 Formula 1 calendar as the leading support series, the 2024 F2 season kicks off in Bahrain on 29 February – 2 March.

A visit to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia follows a week later, before a return visit to Albert Park in Melbourne (22-24 March), after the Australian round made its F2 debut in 2023.

As the F1 European leg of the season gets underway, so will F2’s, with Imola playing host to round four on the 17-19 May, followed by Monte-Carlo on the 23-26 May.

As F1 heads to Montreal, F2 will take a breather, before resuming duties as part of the Grand Prix support package with rounds at Barcelona (21-23 June), Spielberg (28-30 June), Silverstone (5-7 July), Budapest (19-21 July) and Spa-Francorchamps (26-28 July) before heading into a summer break.

Whereas in 2023, F2 will return alongside F1 at Zandvoort, in 2024, the Dutch round will be skipped and F2 will return to action after its summer break in Monza (30 August-1 September).

A fortnight after the Italian round, F2 will head to the crazy streets of Baku, with the Azerbaijan event now taking up a spot in the Autumn (13-15 September).

Once the F2 season completes its Baku-based-running, the hotly-contested series will have to wait until the end of November for the thirteenth round of the 2024 season.

The wait will come to an end on 29 November-1 December with the F2 championship’s first visit to the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar.

The 2024 F2 season will then conclude with a fourteenth round in Abu Dhabi, around the Yas Marina circuit on 6-8 December.

President and CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali, had this to say on the announcement of the 2024 F2 Calendar;

“It is fantastic to announce such an exciting F2 calendar for 2024, following on from the 24 race calendar we announced for Formula 1 a few weeks ago.

“The breadth of venues and the addition of Qatar is another sign of the strength and interest in F2 globally and the talent we have in the Championship is very positive for the future.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said that next year’s F2 calendar “ensures another exciting season of racing on some of the most iconic and challenging circuits around the world.”

Finally, Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel had his say on the announcement, citing the importance of a more balanced calendar, competition amongst promoters to host the championship and keeping teams’ budgets under control.

“I’m very pleased to announce that there will be fourteen rounds and 28 races on the Formula 2 calendar in 2024,” he said.

“For next year, we will race in Qatar, which is a very exciting new venue.

“The final leg of the season will see Baku, Qatar and Abu Dhabi after the race weekend in Monza, making the 2024 calendar more balanced.

“We keep receiving interest from many promoters, and it’s great that we can add new tracks every season.

“Even though there will be more fly-away events in 2024, we continue to ensure the teams’ budget remains at a proper level.”

The 2023 F2 season resumes at Zandvoort on the 25-27 August, you can see the 2024 calendar below.
