Shwartzman kicks off Ferrari test at Fiorano

Ferrari co-reserve driver Robert Shwartzman kicked off a private test at the marque’s Fiorano facility on Tuesday.

Ferrari has typically organised a multi-day test in late January for its Formula 1 representatives, and some young drivers, using old-spec machinery, as permitted in the regulations.

Shwartzman got behind the wheel of Ferrari’s 2021 car, the SF21, and completed 87 laps in largely cold and wet conditions at Maranello.

Shwartzman, the 2021 Formula 2 runner-up, will share the role of Ferrari’s reserve driver with Antonio Giovinazzi this year.

He is due to return to competition in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup this year, having also tested an IndyCar during the off-season.

Regular Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz is due to test the SF21 on Wednesday.

Ferrari’s as-yet-untitled 2023 challenger is set to be presented on February 14.

AlphaTauri was also in action on Tuesday at nearby venue Imola, home to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with Yuki Tsunoda driving the AT02.
