Sebastian Montoya, son of the seven-time Formula 1 grand prix winner Juan Pablo, has officially joined the Red Bull Junior Team.

Montoya had previously been part of the Red Bull set-up as an athlete but wasn’t an official junior.

The Colombian driver has been racing single-seaters since 2020, with his best result being fourth in the 2021 Italian Formula 4 Championship.

Last year, he made his FIA F3 debut with Campos Racing at Zandvoort, scoring two eight-place finishes.

Montoya drove for Hitech Grand Prix at the post-season test from Jerez, and is expected to race full-time in the F3 series this year.

“Excited to announce I am now part of the Red Bull’s Official Junior Team,” Montoya wrote on social media.

“This past year, I became part of the brand’s athletes and now we will work together for the ultimate goal: F1.”

Montoya joins a long list of F1 juniors, many of whom are competing in the Formula 2 and F3 categories.

Red Bull’s junior driver programme has been hailed as one of the most successful in motorsport, as it has delivered several drivers to F1 during its existence.
