Verstappen considering endurance appearance in ‘two or three years’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Double world champion Max Verstappen would love to race with his father Jos in endurance racing, and we may not have to wait too long to see it happen.

The Dutchman has a contract, signed at the start of this year, that keeps him at Red Bull until at least the end of 2028, at which point he will be 31 years old.

He has been open that he does not really know what he wants to do after that, but he has always been certain that he does not want to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher in racing into his forties in the pinnacle of motorsport.

“Definitely not [Alonso’s age]! Not in Formula 1, who knows what else?” Verstappen told Viaplay.

While the 25-year-old has made it clear that oval racing in IndyCar is not his cup of tea, appearances in races such as Le Mans is something that might appeal.

“But I definitely want to do endurance at some point. Maybe still a few more years, two or three years before I want to do that,” he explained.

Jos was crowned an LMP2 class winner at Le Mans in 2008, and he has tried his hand at rallying in the Belgian Rally Championship this year. He is not getting any younger, so Max wants to race with his 50-year-old dad before time runs out.

“He’s getting too old and I want to do it with him!” said the 35-time race winner.

Alonso will contest his 20th season in F1 with Aston Martin in 2023, and Verstappen is impressed with the passion that continues to emanate from the 41-year-old.

“He is fast and he’s still very motivated,” he added.

“Every time I talk to him, it’s like talking to a 30-year-old who is still in the middle of his career. He loves it, that’s why he’s doing it.”
